Stephanie worked for ITT Rayonier after being widowed, but began school at Shoreline Community College in the early 1990s.  In 1994 she graduated with honors from the nursing program and worked at Crista in Seattle, then assorted volunteer jobs while homeschooling her children.  In 2000, she and her husband joined Wycliffe Bible Translators and for the next 7 years she used her nursing skills in Papua New Guinea where she became the head nurse at the Ukarumpa clinic, and eventually clinic manager.
